How to Listen

Listen to Affinity Radio on DAB!

We’re now broadcasting on the South Shields, Tynemouth, and Newcastle & Gateshead multiplexes using the latest DAB+ technology.

You can find us listed by name—just look for Affinity Radio in your station list.

If you don’t see us straight away, try doing a quick ‘rescan’ on your radio to find us for the first time.

South Shields & Tynemouth Coverage
Newcastle & Gateshead Coverage

Some older DAB radios only receive standard DAB stations, but most newer models support both DAB and DAB+. This means you can access a wider variety of stations with a DAB+ enabled radio.

To be sure your radio supports DAB+, look for the Digital Radio Tick Mark on the device or its packaging. Radios with this mark can receive FM, DAB, and DAB+ broadcasts.

When buying a new digital radio, choose one with the Digital Radio Tick Mark to ensure compatibility with DAB, DAB+, and FM stations. If the Tick Mark isn’t visible, check the product details carefully to confirm it supports DAB+.

What about FM?

OFCOM is no longer issuing new FM licences, so we’re currently unable to broadcast on FM frequencies. The future of radio is digital, and we’re embracing this fully through a range of platforms—including DAB+, Smart Speakers, Smartphone Apps, Smart TV Apps, and online streaming.

Today, 67% of radio listening in the UK happens via digital platforms, compared to just 32% on AM and FM. This clearly shows that digital is where radio is heading.

That said, if OFCOM were to open a new FM licence round for the Newcastle, Gateshead, South Shields, or Tynemouth areas, would we apply? Absolutely—yes!
